Chrome extension for Spotify and YouTube

Spotify podcast transcripts, in one click

Get the transcript of a Spotify episode or a YouTube video without leaving the page, and export it to TXT, Markdown, Word, SRT or VTT. On a paid plan, AI also guesses who is speaking (Spotify only) and every name is yours to check before you export.

3 free transcripts. No credit card. Works in Chrome, Edge and Brave.

How it works

How to get a Spotify podcast transcript

Four steps, and the first three take a few seconds.

  1. Open the episode Open an episode on open.spotify.com that shows a Transcript tab - many shows have one. On YouTube, open any video with captions.
  2. Click Get transcript Click the extension icon. The side panel opens beside the episode, and one click reads the whole transcript.
  3. Check who is speaking On Starter and Creator, switch on Guess who is speaking. Each voice comes with a line it says and a timestamp that plays it. Rename or merge anyone.
  4. Export or copy Download TXT, Markdown, Word, SRT or VTT, or copy the timed, plain or speaker view.

No audio upload, no waiting for a transcription, no pasting links into another website.

On Starter and Creator

Who said it? Spotify does not say.

Spotify labels the voices in a transcript Speaker 1 and Speaker 2. A transcript like that cannot be quoted, cited or handed to a client.

  • Names from the episode itself AI reads the title, the show notes and the introductions - where hosts name their guests - and puts a name on each voice.
  • Every guess, with the evidence A table shows each voice, a line in their own words and a timestamp that plays that exact second.
  • Yours to correct Rename anyone, or give two voices the same name to merge them, before you export.
  • Blank rather than made up A voice the episode does not name is left blank for you to fill in, rather than given a guessed name.

Guessing who is speaking is a switch in the side panel. It starts off, and it is available on Starter and Creator.

What you get

Everything happens in the side panel

Every plan, the free one included, has every export format and every view.

Five export formats

TXT, Markdown, Word (DOCX), SRT and VTT. When the speakers are named, the subtitles say who is talking.

Timed, plain and speaker views

Switch between them, and copy any view in one click.

On the page you are already on

The transcript is read in your own browser. Audio is never downloaded, and text leaves your browser only when you ask AI to name the Spotify speakers.

Instant, because nothing is transcribed

It uses the transcript Spotify or YouTube already shows, so there is no queue and no waiting.

Free re-exports for 30 days

Export the same episode again within 30 days and it is not counted against your plan.

YouTube too

Any video with captions, with timestamps and every export. Speaker detection is not supported on YouTube.

Questions, answered

How do I get a transcript of a Spotify podcast?

Open the episode on open.spotify.com in Chrome, click the extension icon, then Get transcript. It reads the transcript Spotify already shows on an episode with a Transcript tab, and lets you export it.

Does Spotify show who is speaking?

Only anonymously. Spotify separates the voices as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, and never says who they are. On Starter and Creator, AI puts names on those labels.

Is guessing who is speaking on the free plan?

No. The free plan gives you 3 transcripts with every export format. Guessing who is speaking is on Starter and Creator, as a switch in the side panel that starts off.

Can I download a Spotify transcript as Word or SRT?

Yes - TXT, Markdown, Word (DOCX), SRT and VTT. When the speakers are named, the SRT and VTT subtitles say who is talking.

Does it transcribe the audio?

No, and that is why it is instant. It uses the transcript or captions the platform already shows. Audio is never downloaded.

Does it work with every Spotify episode?

Only episodes that show a Transcript tab. Many shows have one, but not all. An episode without one is never counted.

Does it work with YouTube?

Yes, on videos with captions: you get the transcript with timestamps and every export format. Speaker names are for Spotify episodes only.

How accurate are the speaker names?

On Spotify, where the voices are already separated, names are usually right when the show notes or the introductions mention the people. On YouTube the speaker detection is not supported.

What counts as one transcript?

One episode or one video. Exporting the same one again within 30 days is free.

Is there a limit on episode length?

Free and Starter cover episodes up to 2 hours, and Creator covers up to 4 hours. An episode over the limit is refused before anything is read, so it never uses up a transcript.

Why do I sign in with Google?

It keeps the free transcripts fair - one allowance per person, browser and network - and it is the account a paid plan attaches to. We receive only your email address and account ID.

What happens to my data?

Transcripts are read in your own browser. When AI guesses who is speaking, the text it needs is sent to our service and is not kept afterwards; the names it finds are kept for 30 days so the same episode is not processed twice. Audio is never downloaded. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I upgrade or cancel?

Upgrade from the Plans screen in the side panel. Cancel anytime from your Freemius account, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
